Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you. 1 Peter 1:3-4 ESV
You have an inheritance, an inheritance the Bible confirms will “never perish, spoil or fade” (1 Peter 1:4 NIV). It’s being kept in heaven for you, and, although that inheritance is safely stored in heaven, there is a condition you have to meet before you can claim it. Revelation 21:7 says, “He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son.” (NASB)
So what do you have to overcome? You have to overcome your pride – a pride that refuses to acknowledge you’re a sinner who needs a Savior. A pride that insists if you do more good works than bad works, God will let you into His heavenly home. And you have to overcome your unbelief that rejects Jesus as the only way to God.
Is it worth clinging to your pride and unbelief and forfeiting your inheritance? Think about it. In the long run, from eternity’s perspective, which will be worth more?
