The Last Adam

Too many people read the story of Jesus’ temptation by Satan (Matthew 4:1-11) as just another event without realizing it was actually a crisis situation.

Paul referred to Jesus as “the last Adam” (1 Corinthians 15:45). Jesus came to restore all that the first Adam lost through sin. In order to reverse Adam’s failure, Jesus had to be tempted like the first Adam. The last Adam had to obey God in the wilderness in order to reverse what the first Adam gave up in the Garden. The Kingdom of God hung in the balance. Jesus remained faithful to the Father and confirmed the authority of God’s Kingdom on earth.

Every moment of temptation in our lives is a crisis moment. The Holy Spirit stands ready to come to your aid in those moments. Get with the program. (Adapted, Turning Point)
