You have heard the law that says, love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For He gives His sunlight to both the evil and the good, and He sends rain on the just and the unjust alike. If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that. Let your love be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect. Matthew 5:43-48, Adapted
The true expression of Christian character is not in good-doing, but in God-likeness. God’s life in us expresses itself not as human life trying to be godly, but as God’s life. If the Spirit of God has transformed you within, you will exhibit not just good human characteristics in your life, but divine characteristics.
The secret of a Christian’s life is that the supernatural becomes natural in him as a result of the grace of God, and the experience of this becomes evident not in times of intimate fellowship with God, but in the practical, everyday details of life. And when we come in contact with things that create confusion and a flurry of activity, we find to our own amazement that we have the power to stay wonderfully poised even in the center of it all.
