So this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “Take your burnt offerings and your other sacrifices and eat them yourselves! When I led your ancestors out of Egypt, it was not burnt offerings and sacrifices I wanted from them. This is what I told them: ‘Obey me, and I will be your God, and you will be my people. And walk in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well with you.’ Jeremiah 7:21-23
The Bible defines obedience as walking in God’s ways. And it promises that it will be well with us when we are obedient: “Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in His ways. You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you.” Psalm 128:1-2 ESV
It is no easy task to walk in His ways. To resist the enemy’s efforts to thwart our obedience. One of God’s prescriptions for this is prayer. And what better thing than to pray God’s own words back to Him. Commit this prayer to memory. Repeat as needed:
“Teach me, O Lord, the way of Your statutes,
And I shall keep it to the end.
Give me understanding, and I shall keep Your law;
Indeed, I shall observe it with my whole heart.
Make me walk in the path of Your commandments,
For I delight in it.
Incline my heart to Your testimonies,
And not to covetousness.”
Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things,
And revive me in Your way.” Psalm 119:33-37 NKJV
